Quotation Two

"Freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it"
                                                                                                                                                      Pericles

...Pericles was a Greek politician and statesman in the time of 461 BC. He was also regarded as the first citizen of Athens. This quote means that freedom is something you can get if you truly preserve and fight for it. It will surely be yours if you guard it. This means that others prolong for freedom, even though they often lack the element of courage. Just sitting around wishing for it and watching time pass by, one will not achieve it. You have to take action. Martin Luther King Junior portrays a great example of this quote. He had the quality of spirit to speak the truth directly, which is a fundamental necessity for democracy even knowing that he could be shot and killed. He was a black American. His race had overcome slavery and prejudice. They were people who had moral courage to stand up for their rights and thereby they injected a new vitality into the veins of history and civilization. Martin King Luther died for his beliefs. To be courageous and to exercise our freedom fully is difficult. One should say what they really feel, despite the fear they have. Speaking out takes courage. We fear the unknown or that we might get hurt. You can only change yourself by facing your fears. To sum it all up, a way to show courage that helps others including yourself, is to stand up and take actions on those who oppose the freedom and rights of others....
